The Bordeaux Wines

The widest vineyard in the world covers three different river axes.

The vastest vineyard in the world covers three different river axes.

- In the North - West : The Médoc

West from the Atlantic Ocean and East from the Gironde estuary, the area of Médoc runs over 80km. In the North of Bordeaux, the Wine route towards Pauillac and the Pointe de Graves leads to the finest terroirs and the most prestigious "Grands Crus Classés" (classification of 1855). The unusual architecture of the castles reveals the exceptional originality and personality of this region.

- In the East : Saint Emilion, Pomerol, Fronsac.

Located on the right side of the Dordogne, the vines in this area enjoy a worldwide reputation. The castles are less imposing than those in Médoc, but the countryside is much greener. Vast expanses of vineyards alternate with Medieval and Roman monuments. The small town of Saint-Emilion, a UNESCO world heritage site and the elegant wines are worth the bend !

- In the North : Bourg and Blaye :

Bourg and Blaye are certainly the more friendly wine- growing regions in the area. They are both located on the right bank of the Gironde. You will be fascinated by the vines running over the estuary, the white stoned and troglodyte villages, the Roman churches, the famous archaeological sites and the small pleasant ports.

- In the South –West : Graves et Sauternes.

From the South of Bordeaux to Langon, west of La Garonne, the vines are sometimes hidden in the pine forest. Thanks to this natural protection the terroir produce remarkable wines. The blending of the variety results in AOC wines that are lively and harmonious, with good aromatic strength. The area also produces classified dry whites, known for their outstanding aromatic power.

- In the South –East : l’Entre-deux-Mers.

The largest wine-growing region in Bordeaux, the Entre-deux-Mers owes its name, literally “between two seas”, to the two rivers surrounding it, the Dordogne and the Garonne. A great variety of wines is produced here : fruity, lively reds ; clarets and rosés ; a wide variety of whites to be enjoyed while young and crisp ; a range of semi-sweet and sweet whites. The region invites visitors to travel through history by discovering fortified towns such as Créon and Sauveterre de Guyenne ; abbeys such as La Sauve Majeure ; and inspired places where artists such as Mauriac(Château de Malagar) and Toulouse Lautrec (Château de Malromé) lived.
